Before you even start reading this, when was the last time you changed your bath sponge…or your toothbrush? If you can’t remember then it’s been too long!
If you really think about this, these are things we use on a daily basis and they can be great breeding grounds for bacteria.
These microbial creepy crawlies thrive and grow in warm and moist environments, which unfortunately best describes the state of most of our bathrooms…eek! It is important to be mindful of what you put on our face, especially if you’re acne prone as bacteria thrives on moist and wet environments and adding a contaminated sponge will worsen the situation. It is recommended that we change our toothbrushes every 3 months and our sponge every 6 to 8 weeks. For best practice, wash your sponge thoroughly after each bath and wring out all the water and leave out to dry.
A good way to extend the life and keep them in good condition is to sterilize them weekly by soaking them in hot, boiling water with salt. This will kill most of the bacteria and you should be able to use them a little longer.
